Toll Road Travesty Through San Mateo Wilderness

Toll Road (TCA) pitches plans that use water we dont have and wild areas that are precious, St Andrews Church 10/5 5:30 pm.

After being told NO by the Coastal Commission in 2008, and NO again a few months later by a federal agency, then NO more recently by the state Water Resources Control Board that the 241 cannot be extended south, guess who is back at it again?

The toll road agency is beginning to pitch its plan to punch a highly destructive road into what is now an almost pristine area south of Ortega Highway.

This is the exact kind of project that violates common sense, the environment and past agency determinations.

That is why those of us who understand the simple concepts of balance with nature and the responsible use of natural resources such as water should show up at the "pitch event" on Wednesday at 5:30 St Andrews Church to help put this mistake to rest.

As a community, I believe San Clemente has more than enough strength and wisdom to do this. To make it crystal clear to the financial interests behind this road and the Ranch Mission Viejo development plans that the time for carving up the very few wild areas left has past. Whats left must not be touched without a proven and irrefutable need to do so. Placed in context, this is the message that nature, scientists and independent observers the world over are saying.

Locally, the Nature Commission calls this area the San Mateo Wilderness.

That is what it is, and how it must stay. Add you voice to this message so that agencies hear us loud and clear, starting Wednesday at St Andrews Church, 2001 Frontera, 5:30 pm.
