SAN LEANDRO, CA — A driver was taken to the hospital Tuesday after crashing into a McDonald's in San Leandro, authorities said.

It's unclear what caused the driver to crash. Photos online by the Alameda County Fire Department show a grey sedan deep inside the dining room of a San Leandro McDonald's along Washington Avenue.

"After confirming the structure was stable, Station 9 crews canceled incoming units, removed damaged door and window frames, and safely backed the vehicle out of the building," the Alameda County Fire Department said.

The driver of the car was taken away by paramedics for treatment, fire officials said. The extent of the driver's injuries was not available.

Fire officials say San Leandro police are investigating the cause of the crash.
