Today is Alice Sarafian Day in San Leandro

WHEREAS, on April 30, 1984, Alice Sarafian was appointed to the Human Resources Commission, which later became the Human Services Commission; and

WHEREAS, through her deep involvement in the community and her many years of service on the Human Services Commission, Alice gained an unmatched knowledge and perception of the human service needs in the community, and applied that knowledge and perception to the matters before the Commission; and

WHEREAS, during her time on the Commission, Alice served as Chair many times, and is greatly respected by her fellow Commissioners; and

WHEREAS, Alice worked on many important projects during her tenure on the Human Services Commission, including studies that resulted in recommendations to the City Council regarding Child Care, Homelessness and Gang Violence; and

WHEREAS, Alice leaves the Human Services Commission after nearly 27 years of dedicated service, and her wealth of historical knowledge and understanding will be greatly missed.

 NOW, THEREFORE, I Stephen H. Cassidy, Mayor of the City of San Leandro, on behalf the City Council, do hereby proclaim March 22, 2011 as “ALICE SARAFIAN DAY” in San Leandro, and express sincere appreciation for her many contributions to the San Leandro community.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of San Leandro to be affixed this 21st day of March, 2011.
