Pirates, Vikings Say Bye Bye Burrell
San Leandro High School Pirates Alumni win final game at Burrell Field as we know it. Pacific High School Vikings go down, but not due to lack of spirit.
While the future of Burrell Field has been touted lately, it was the past that was on display Saturday. Vikings and Pirates from graduation years past met in a gridiron showdown -- complete with flags and Ben-Gay.
The cold, wind and rain did not keep spirited alumni of both schools from filling Burrell's stands. About 400 attendees cheered the team by some estimates.

The event also served as a fundraiser. Members of the sports complex committee were accepting donations and selling inscribed bricks. San Leandro High School boosters also offered various food and pastries to raise funds for their respective causes.
The game was, however the main attraction. Let there be no question about it. Even though there was nothing other than pride on the line, all of the men who stepped onto the field left it all out there.
