City of San Leandro Appoints New Director of Engineering and Transportation
Keith Cooke was selected after a national recruitment process.

The City of San Leandro has appointed a new director of the engineering and transportation department. Keith Cooke has been working for the city since 1994, and he’s been serving as the department’s interim director since December when his predecessor retired, according to city manager Chris Zapata.
In a prepared statement, Zapata said Cooke has a solid track record of shepherding major projects to completion. Cooke holds a bachelor’s degree from University of California at Davis and a master’s degree in structural engineering from University of California at Berkeley.
He’s also licensed as a professional engineer, according to Zapata. He was selected after a national recruitment process.
