Off-Duty Oakland Officer Accidentally Shot Himself In San Leandro
The incident occurred at the Bayfair Center parking lot, and the officer was listed in stable condition, officials said.

SAN LEANDRO, CA – An off-duty Oakland police officer accidentally shot himself Saturday night in the parking lot of a San Leandro shopping center, police said today.
The officer, who remains in stable condition today at a hospital, was found at 8:55 p.m. with a single gunshot wound when police were dispatched to an apartment in the 400 block of Dolores Avenue.
A woman who said her boyfriend, the officer, had been shot met them at the apartment, said San Leandro police Lt. Issac Benabou.

"At this point in the case, we know the shooting occurred in the parking lot of Bayfair Mall and appears that he accidentally shot himself," Benabou said.
Police gave the officer first aid until paramedics arrived.

Bayfair Center is a few miles from the apartment on Dolores, but no details were released on how the officer made it there after being shot.
The officer's name has not been released. The San Leandro Police Department is investigating the shooting.

An Oakland police officer remained in stable condition Sunday night
after he was shot while off duty Saturday in San Leandro, an Oakland police spokeswoman said.
Oakland police Officer Felicia Aisthorpe said that no other details of the incident, including the basic circumstances of the shooting were being released Sunday night. The identity of the officer also was not released.
The San Leandro Police Department is conducting the investigation into the shooting. A message left with that department was not immediately returned.
