Employee Shot Twice During San Leandro Robbery: Police

The robbery happened at Sam's Burgers on East 14th Street.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — An employee was shot twice during an armed robbery at Sam's Burgers in San Leandro early Tuesday morning. Both bullets struck the victim in the leg. The victim's injuries are not life threatening, according to San Leandro Police. The suspect has not been captured.

The drama unfolded just before 3 a.m. when the suspect entered Sam's Burgers at 501 E.14th St. with a handgun. He demanded money and the employees complied.

According to a written statement from police, "As the suspect started to flee the restaurant, he pointed the handgun at one of the employees and fired two rounds, both of which struck the employee in the leg. The suspect then fled on foot, west onto Cherrywood Avenue."

An officer who was in the area heard the shooting and responded to the restaurant immediately.

Police officers, Alameda County Sheriff's Department personnel and a K9 team searched the area but the suspect got away.

The suspect was described by one of the employees as African-American with a thin build. He wore a knit ski mask over his face.
