Engagement Ring Stolen: San Leandro Police Seek This Woman

Surveillance video allegedly shows this woman stealing a backpack containing the ring from a fast food worker.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — Police are looking for a woman who last week stole a backpack containing a diamond engagement ring and other valuables from a San Leandro Jack In The Box, police said Friday.

From video-surveillance images, police hope the public can identify the suspect, who appears to be black in a striped shirt wearing a patterned scarf and sunglasses on her head.

Police said the theft occurred last Saturday after the backpack's owner, an 18-year-old employee of the restaurant accidentally left the pack in the dining area just before the start of her shift. According to police,
when she returned minutes later to retrieve it, it was gone.

Employees checked the surveillance system and allegedly spotted the woman entering the restaurant, picking up the pack, concealing it and leaving the building.
