Fund Established To Help Umanzor Family

The San Leandro Unified School District has helped set up the Myrna Umanzor Memorial Fund to help the family of the San Leandro High freshman who was .

Anyone wishing to make a contribution can send a check directly to the .

Alternately, well-wishers can bring a check or cash to any District school site to be deposited into the account.

School District Superintendent Cindy Cathey said the mood in the schools was understandably somber.

"Most students were aware of the tragedy and wanted to pay their respects in some way," she said.

The schools have provided time for class discussions and given students opportunities to share their stories and memories. She said counselors and psychologists were available to help students and staff.

"The compassion and out pour of support to the family, has been inspirational," Cathey said.
