Man Dies Following I-880 Crash Monday

SAN LEANDRO, CA — A man in his mid 30s died after a crash on southbound Interstate Highway 880 in San Leandro on Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash was reported at 7:11 a.m. on southbound Highway 880 near the Davis Street off-ramp.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the driver may have suffered some sort of medical emergency, then crashed into a wall, CHP Officer Manuel Leal said.

Emergency responders attempted to perform CPR on the victim but he was pronounced dead, according to Leal.

A sig-alert was issued from about 8:30 to 9:30.

This crash is separate from an earlier, head-on collision that was reported in the same vicinity.
