'Pirate News' Offers Student Telecast From San Leandro High
Relatively new program adds another dimension to the multimedia training program.

The San Leandro Academy for Multimedia (SLAM) has offered a variety of creative arts courses to public high schoolers since 2001. One of SLAM's newest initiatives is a student-produced television report called Pirate News.
Instructor Phil Hargrave, one of the teachers behind the newscast, said the show remains experimental as students and staff alike gain experience in television production and news coverage.
State-of-the-art production facilities in the high school's Arts Education Center prepare students to use college-level and real world television studios.

SLAM students are trying to hone their reporting skills by interviewing school athletes, doing stories about service clubs and generally trying to provide a video insight into goings-on at San Leandro High.
Hargrave invites the community to watch the newscasts on the Pirate News website.
