San Leandro Teacher Honored

Lincoln Alternative High School teacher Brandon Price has been named “Teacher Honoree of the Year” by the Southern Alameda County Alliance of African American Educators (SACAAAE).

Lincoln is for students who have problems of one sort or another attending San Leandro High.

According to a school district press release, Price started teaching in San Leandro Unified School District at Lincoln High School during the 2009-2010 school year after having spent two years at the Barack Obama Academy in East Oakland.

“He quickly endeared himself to staff because of his collegial, collaborative nature, as well as his flexibility, teaching four different courses in four different classrooms,” said Lincoln High School Principal Alex Harp. “Students appreciated Mr. Price because of his undying support for and belief in them. Unfortunately, that first year Brandon received a pink slip due to our budget crisis.”

Price spent the next year in Long Beach, where he and his new bride welcomed their son into this world. When a position opened up this year at Lincoln, Brandon expressed interest in returning to the school which has recently been named a California Model Continuation High School. Harp said Price’s Socratic Method empowers students to critically think and use their voice, so that they are active learners.

Price says his greatest joy in teaching comes from seeing students re-engage as scholars, using their resilience to overcome obstacles and enjoy academic and social success.

"We are proud of Brandon, and thrilled to have him teaching in our district," said San Leandro Unified School District Superintendent Cindy Cathey.
