Local Schools to Participate in ShakeOut

Learn how you, too, can take part in the Great California ShakeOut, a statewide earthquake drill that will take place on Thursday, Oct. 20.

Millions of people throughout California, including students and staff at 11 San Leandro public schools, will take time Thursday morning to prepare for any future earthquakes as part of the Great California ShakeOut.

According to the event's website, 8.4 million people are expected to participate.

The California Earthquake Authority thinks this may be the largest earthquake drill ever held.

Local students and staff will participate in the drill by dropping and ducking under a table.

While under the table, participants are encouraged to reflect about what would have fallen near or around them in the event of a real quake.
