Sutter Health Donates $12,500 To San Leandro Food Pantry

The twelve thousand, five hundred dollar donation to Davis Street is just one way the organization gives back to local communities.

From Sutter Health: Today Sutter Health continued its nine year tradition of donating to the Davis Street Family Resource Center Food Pantry – a local resource that provides bags of food to those in need and new toys for children.

“I’m thankful for the continued support of Sutter Health. Despite the upturn in the economy it’s clear how many people need our support. To date, the Holiday Basket Program has enrolled more than 215 seniors and 775 low-income families including nearly 3,000 kids that probably wouldn’t have received any new toys this Holiday Season.” Rose Padilla Johnson, Chief Executive Officer, Davis Street.

The twelve thousand, five hundred dollar donation to Davis Street is just one way the organization gives back to local communities. In 2016 Sutter Health invested $2,343,215.00 in Eden Medical Center’s service area which includes Castro Valley, San Leandro, Hayward, Cherryland, Ashland and San Lorenzo. This figure does not include staff volunteer hours or investments in medical facilities.

“At Eden Medical Center we’re passionate about creating a healthier world,” said Stephen Gray, CEO of EMC. “The Eden team and I are proud to work for a not-for-profit organization that focuses on the well-being of people. Our partnership with community organizations like the Davis Street Family Resource Center makes a difference in the lives of those who need it most and helps us put our mission into action.”

For 47 years, Davis Street, in collaboration with the Alameda County Fire Department, San Leandro Police Officers Association, local schools, clubs, faith-based communities, and businesses, has provided food baskets to more than 1,000 low-income families throughout Castro Valley, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Ashland, and Cherryland. Last year the Holiday Basket Program provided 1,008 families, including 200 seniors and more than 2,800 children, with a holiday feast; which included a turkey, fresh produce, seasonal goods, and new toys or gift cards for children. You Can Make a Difference Davis Street is currently accepting new unwrapped toys, canned food and monetary donations for the holiday basket program.
