Candidate Filing Period Open for City Council and School Board Elections
The filing period for San Marino City Council and the SMUSD Board of Education candidates began Monday and ends Aug. 11 and 17. One school board member is not running for re-election and it is unclear if anyone new will run for the city council seats.
Those interested in running for San Marino City Council or the Board of Education in November can file for candidacy now through Aug. 11 for city council and through Aug. 17 for school board.
This year the city chose to combine the city council election, ordinarily held in March, with the school board election in order to save funds.
The following San Marino City Council seats are up for election on November 8:

Both councilmen are able to run again. So far it is unclear whether they will run opposed.
The following seats on the San Marino Unified School District Board of Education are up for election Nov. 8:
Chris Norgaard
- Current Board of Education President
- In his eighth year on the board
- Will run for re-election in November
Karen Preston
- Current Board of Education Clerk
- In her eighth year on the SMUSD Board of Education
- Will not run in November, according to Norgaard
Lisa Link, incoming President of the PTA, will be running for a school board member seat, Norgaard told Patch.
