Historic Michael White Adobe Holds Rare Open House (PHOTOS)

As celebrated Friday night, the Michael White Adobe celebrated its second time being open to the public in over 20 years.

A committee is currently in the process of deciding what to do with the historic building.

On March 27, 1845, the land upon which the old adobe now stands and adjacent water-bearing lands were granted by Govenor Pio Pico to "Miguel Blanco" for services rendered to the San Gabriel Mission by his wife and mother-in-law. It was not until 1872, however, that the patent to the land was finally issued by Ulysses S. Grant, President of the United States.

Michael White's dwelling was restored during 1952 by and a group of public spirited citizens of the San Gabriel Valley.

Used for a short time in the 1980's as a place for cheerleaders to congregate, the building had to be closed due to safety issues.

Currently, fundraising is happening to help raise money for a new roof and to fix the foundation. The current plan is to use the home as a place to showcase awards won by athletes.
