San Marino Schools Show Mixed Standardized Test Results
While 2011 STAR test results show the majority of San Marino students well above average, scores still declined in certain categories.

San Marino students achieved STAR (Standardized Testing And Reporting) test scores in the advanced category more than any other category, according to 2011 STAR test results released last Tuesday.

The test measured English-Language Arts, science, history and various mathematical levels for grades two to 11 and “advanced” was the highest category possible.

Some declining scores still occurred, however, particularly for 9th graders in Algebra, who got a 2011 average score that was 38.4 lower than the average 2010 score.
The 2011 average scale scores, when compared with the 2010 average scale scores, show the following changes in various subjects:

STAR test scores increased in:
- English-Language Arts; grades 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11
- Mathematics; grades 2, 5 and 6
- Algebra; grade 8
- Algebra II; grades 10 and 11
- History-Social Science; grade 8
- U.S. History; grade 11
- Life science; grades 5 and 8*
*The 2011 average test score for Grade 8 life science showed the biggest improvement compared to the 2010 score, increasing by 34.1.
STAR test scores decreased in:
- English-Language Arts; grades 3, 6 and 7
- Mathematics; grades 3, 4 and 7
- Algebra; grades 9* and 10
- CST world history; grades 9 and 10
- Life science; grade 10
*The 2011 average test score for Grade 9 Algebra showed the biggest decline compared to the 2010 score, decreasing by 38.4.
