Whiz Kid of the Week: Isaac Roberts

Each week San Marino Patch names a Whiz Kid of the Week. This can be a kid, teen, sports team, Girl Scout troop, etc. from San Marino who is amazing in some way.

This week's Whiz Kid is Isaac Roberts. Isaac currently attends and is one of the youngest accomplished children to be featured in the Whiz Kids of the Week column. Not only has Isaac won several awards for his talented musical ability on the fiddle, but he is also a multi-talented kid with a lot to offer the world. His imagination and spirit capture the essence of what it means to be a Whiz Kid. His father Doug is a teacher at LAUSD and his mother Ella was a high school math teacher.

• Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Isaac has received multiple awards. As a gifted (and young!) violinist for just three years, Isaac has made many musical appearances: the Music Teachers’ Association 2011 Strings Branch Honors Recital being just one of them. He’s won 2 trophies at the South-West Youth Music Festival at Cal State Long Beach last summer and the San Marino All City Talent Show this past May.
• Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: The key to Isaac’s awesomeness is equal parts musical attunement, personality, and diversity--all rolled into one package. Upon meeting Isaac you’ll at once realize that he’s a bright young mind who doesn’t believe in limits. As an entering third grader in the coming fall, Isaac is an avid scientist and enjoys hunting for interesting minerals, water-polished stones, and fossils during his fishing trips with his father. Isaac is also an aspiring athlete and has dipped his toes in everything: swimming, football, handball during school, AYSO soccer and Cub Scouts. But what really sets Isaac apart is how he applies his energy and sense of humor into not only his approach in life, but his music. He’s already won numerous awards and his competitive spirit drives him towards continual practice and perfection of his craft.
