215 Citations Issued In SMC For Traffic Violations Including Using Phone, Failing To Stop
The police department conducted a traffic safety enforcement operation.
SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — Police conducted 222 traffic stops in a safety operation Jan. 13 that resulted in 215 citations being issued, mostly for speaking on the phone or texting while driving.
On Jan. 13, multiple law enforcement agencies coordinated with the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office to participate in the saturation traffic enforcement program, which aims to increase traffic safety and awareness in known trouble spots throughout the county.
This operation focused on the cities of San Bruno and Millbrae.

Deputies and officers made 222 traffic stops and issued 215 citations. Of the citations issued, 91 were for speaking on the phone or texting while driving, 57 were for failing to stop at a stop sign, 31 were issued for miscellaneous violations, 12 were for failure to obey a sign/traffic control device, six were for unsafe speed, five were for unlicensed drivers, five were for double yellow line violations, four were for not having proof of liability coverage, and four were for seatbelt and car seat violations.
"The participating deputies and officers remained committed to making a high volume of traffic stops in this coordinated saturation effort while maintaining the highest levels of community awareness and professionalism," police said.
