Convicted Felon Arrested After Shooting Firearm Into Air Near People: Police

SAN MATEO, CA — A 45-year-old San Jose man with a previous felony conviction was arrested in the city of San Mateo on Wednesday for allegedly shooting at someone two weeks prior, police said Sunday.

San Mateo police officers were called to the 800 block of North Humboldt Street on Feb. 12 after witnesses reported a man firing a gun into the air and walking away from the scene with a woman.

Police accused Alfredo Chavez of being the shooter after allegedly identifying a vehicle involved as being connected to him.

A search warrant was served at his residence on Wednesday, where police allegedly found a loaded .45 caliber firearm and ammunition, which a previous felony conviction prohibited Chavez from possessing.

He was arrested and booked into San Mateo County Jail on multiple firearm-related allegations, including assault on a person with a firearm and willful discharge of a firearm.
