District Announces Low-Cost Meal Guidelines
About 36 percent of San Mateo-Foster City School District students qualified for free or reduced-price meals last year.
The has announced its income guidelines for free and reduced-price meals for the coming school year.
The guidelines for the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs will be sent to all district families at the beginning of the school year, said Amber Farinha, coordinator of community services for the district.
“Every family is eligible as long as they meet the guidelines,” Farinha said.

About 36 percent of district students qualified for the program last year, she said.
The income limit has gone up slightly compared to last year. The annual income of a family of four cannot exceed $29,055 for free meals and $41,348 for reduced-price meals this school year. Last year the income limits for a family of four for free and reduced-price meals were $28,665 and $40,793, respectively.

Children who receive Food Stamps, CalWORKs, Kinship Guardianship Assistance Payments or Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations are automatically eligible for free meals.
