Four East Coast Men Arrested in San Carlos for Credit Card Fraud

Several suspects were arrested Wednesday for allegedly trying to use fraudulent credit cards at a San Carlos Best Buy, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

Edwin Fernandez, 23, of Quincy, Mass., Elijah Clarke, 20, of Middletown, N.Y., Musa Kanuteh, 29, of Bronx, N.Y., and Mitchell Malachi, 26, of Fayetteville, Ga., were arrested in the case.

They were arrested on suspicion of commercial burglary, identity theft, fraudulent use of access cards, manufacturing faces access cards, possession of an access card with intent to defraud and conspiracy, sheriff’s
officials said.

Deputies responded at 9:10 p.m. Wednesday to the Best Buy at 1127 Industrial Road in San Carlos in response to a report of people attempting to use fraudulent credit cards.

Responding deputies were able to take the suspects into custody as they were driving out of the store’s parking lot.
Deputies discovered hundreds of fraudulent gift cards and credit cards and equipment used to manufacture gift cards and credit cards in the vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.

There were also 131 new iPhone 6s, associated accessories, two MacBook Pros and high-end clothing found in the vehicle, deputies said.

The estimated value of the items stolen was $125,000.
