Masterworks Chorale is delighted to open its 2016-17 season with two
performances of Rachmaninoff’s Vespers – on Saturday, November 5th at
8pm and Sunday, November 6th at 4pm in the acoustically thrilling space
of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, at the corner of Baldwin and El
Camino Real in San Mateo. Considered to be the crowning achievement of
the golden age of Russian Orthodox choral music, this astonishingly
beautiful a cappella music was composed in 1915 as a setting of the
All-Night Vigil Service, and was highly acclaimed at the outset by
audiences and critics alike. Rachmaninoff himself told singers at the
premiere, “Even in my dreams I could not have imagined I would write
such a work!”

MASTERWORKS CHORALE, named as Top Adult Chorus on the Peninsula by
CBS, performs polished, diverse concerts that help our communities
thrive through opportunities to be entertained, grow and connect. This
season's performances will continue with our family-style holiday
concert, "Carols, Colors, and Cookies" on Saturday, December 10th (at 2
and 4pm), as well as our more formal "Holiday Festival" on Sunday,
December 11th, complete with an Old World style Holiday Market with
handmade crafts and gifts, plus our famous cookie buffet!

Performances in 2017 continue with the powerful Verdi REQUIEM - one
of the most exciting and dramatic works for chorus, virtuoso guest
soloists and full orchestra, presented March 25th and 26th. The season
concludes with the lighthearted "Life is a Cabaret: Songs of Kander
& Ebb", with music from CABARET, CHICAGO and NEW YORK, NEW YORK on June 3rd and 4th.

The singers of Masterworks warmly invite you to connect with
Rachmaninoff’s favorite work, whose powerful 12-part harmonies honored
his homeland while transcending cultural barriers, to bring his country
together in time of war. Come experience the beauty for yourself,
and prepare to be moved.
