Over 270 Citations Issued At Traffic Enforcement Blitz In SMC: Police
More than 100 tickets were given for cell phone use while driving, police said.
SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — Police issued over 250 citations during a traffic enforcement operation Tuesday in San Mateo and Foster City, aiming to address known trouble spots, police said.
Deputies and officers conducted around 280 traffic stops, resulting in a total of 271 citations being issued, including for distracted driving and common moving violations.

- 112 were issued for using a cell phone or texting while driving.
- 73 were issued for failing to stop at a stop sign.
- 11 were issued for seatbelt or car seat violations.
- 7 were issued for unsafe speed.
- 6 were issued for failure to obey a sign or traffic control device.
- 4 were issued for double yellow line violations.
- 8 were issued for unlicensed drivers.
- 59 were issued for other miscellaneous violations.
Also one person was arrested for willfully fleeing or attempting to evade a pursuing peace officer.
Police said they will continue high-volume traffic stops throughout San Mateo County in 2026 as part of a multi-agency program.
