San Francisco Man Stabbed to Death Outside Burlingame Office Building

A 28-year-old San Francisco man was stabbed to death outside of an office building in Burlingame on Tuesday evening, a police captain said.

The victim, identified by the San Mateo County coroner’s office as Neil Lewis, was stabbed around 6 p.m. in the 1800 block of Gilbreth Road, Burlingame police Capt. Mike Matteucci said.

Witnesses said they saw two men fighting on the sidewalk in front of the office building, then one of them fell to the ground while the other fled in a vehicle, Matteucci said.

Witnesses realized the victim, later identified as Lewis, had suffered multiple stab wounds. He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where he died about 40 minutes later, Matteucci said.

The suspect was described as a black man in his 20s or 30s who was wearing a reflective safety vest and fled in a newer-model red sedan last seen traveling south on Gilbreth Road, according to Matteucci.

Matteucci said the stabbing occurred in an area with many commercial buildings and employees who may wear reflective vests, so investigators are following up on leads and contacting businesses in those buildings Wednesday.
