San Mateo County Extends Eviction Moratorium: Report

Renters will be responsible for repaying back rent within 180 days the end of the moratorium.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors voted to extend eviction moratoriums through late July, The Almanac reports.

Amid high unemployment and looming uncertainty over the COVID-19 crisis, the board voted on June 23 in support of an ordinance to extend all residential evictions throughout the county and commercial evictions in unincorporated regions through July 28, the report said.

The board’s action follows Gov. Newsom’s executive order issued in late May allowing local jurisdictions to freeze evictions through July 28, The San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The ordinance requires landlords to provide tenants an emergency regulation notice of the eviction moratorium, The Almanac report said. Tenants are required to notify their landlord within 14 days of receiving the notice that they are unable to pay rent due to the economic impact of the pandemic.

Renters will be responsible for repaying back rent within 180 days of the ultimate end date of the eviction moratorium, the report said.
