San Mateo County Reports 36 New COVID-19 Cases, No Deaths

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — San Mateo County Health reported 36 additional cases of the new coronavirus Thursday.

The latest report brings the countywide total of those who have tested positive for COVID-19 to 1,377.

The county reported no additional COVID-19-related fatalities, leaving the county's death toll at 56.

There are currently 58 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in San Mateo County, of which 35 are being treated in intensive care units.

Elsewhere in the Bay Area, with little hope of public gatherings being allowed by July, the Martinez City Council has become the most recent Bay Area city to cancel its Fourth of July celebrations, voting Wednesday night to cancel the popular Fourth of July fireworks show and annual Independence Day parade.

City of Berkeley Health Officer Dr. Lisa Hernandez said Wednesday that anyone who has new coronavirus symptoms can now get tested for free at a city testing site.

Contra Costa Health Services announced Thursday that it will begin offering COVID-19 coronavirus testing to all county residents, regardless of ability to pay or symptoms of the virus.

Napa County health officials said testing for the COVID-19 disease caused by the coronavirus is now available for anyone who works or lives in the county.

The free testing is available by appointment Mondays through Saturdays for community members whether they are symptomatic or symptom-free.

There have been 61,140 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 2,476 coronavirus-related deaths in California as of Thursday afternoon according to The Guardian, which cites data from John Hopkins.

The United States has confirmed 1,252,744 COVID-19 cases and 75,442 coronavirus-related fatalities as of Thursday afternoon.
