San Mateo County Reports 6 New COVID-19 Deaths, 71 cases

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — San Mateo County Health reported six additional coronavirus-related fatalities on Tuesday.

The report brings the countywide COVID-19 death toll to 82.

The county also reported 71 additional COVID-19 cases.

There are currently 81 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in San Mateo County, of which 16 are being treated in intensive care units.

Elsewhere around the Bay Area and beyond, some bars, wineries, distilleries and breweries across the state will be able to sell alcohol to-go during the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, according to the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

Businesses that primarily sell alcohol and do not have their own kitchens will now be allowed to sell beverages to-go in sealed containers as long as they partner with a food-providing business and sell alcoholic beverages in conjunction with a meal.

An emergency order streamlining the process to allow dine-in restaurants and retail shops in Benicia to reopen using outdoor space such as parking lots, sidewalk areas and public plazas was issued Friday by City Manager Lorie Tinfow.

The city said it is also developing a program that could allow using parking spaces for alfresco dining and shopping spots. Business owners need to complete and submit a form to the city for approval.

Santa Clara County officials announced Monday an expansion of the county's coronavirus testing capacity, adding two pop-up locations in Mountain View and San Jose and drive-thru testing at four existing sites in Milpitas, Morgan Hill and San Jose.

Marin County has issued guidelines intended to let childcare businesses and summer camps make plans to safely reopen and accept children of non-essential workers starting June 1. Steps mandated by the county and approved by county public health officer Dr. Matt Willis to prevent the transmission of novel coronavirus include social distancing, handwashing, face covering, surface cleaning and disinfecting.

There have been 99,091 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 3,807 coronavirus-related deaths in California as of Tuesday afternoon according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

The United States had 1,679,419 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 98,852 coronavirus-related fatalities as of Tuesday afternoon.
