Beginning on Aug. 11, census enumerators will be making in person visits to households that have not yet filled out their census forms. Enumerators will conduct in-person interviews to collect the information required to fill out the census for that household.
Over the remaining months of census data collection enumerators will make repeated visits to households that they are not able to contact on the first attempt.
Even though in person data collection is beginning in August, the census can still be filled out online or by phone at any time.
The deadline to self-respond to the 2020 Census has been extended to Oct. 31 due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

“San Mateo County spans from the rural and agricultural Pacific Coast to the tech-centric highway 101 corridor and surveying that diverse population can be difficult,” the county said in a statement of its enumeration efforts.
“To ensure that the County receives its fair share of resources, the San Mateo County government has invested in a comprehensive strategy to achieve a complete and accurate count. Through a substantial program of community-based outreach, San Mateo County aims to leave no person unaccounted for.”
