SAN MATEO, CA — Officers from the San Mateo Police Department are being credited with saving the life of a toddler on Wednesday after they performed CPR on the child, who police said had choked on a grape.
Officers were first on the scene in the 500 block of E. Poplar Ave. after the child's mother called 911 call at 2:25 p.m. on Wednesday after she witnessed her child not breathing, police said in a news release Thursday.
According to police, officers performed life-saving measures on the child, including CPR, before paramedics arrived and transported the child to a local trauma center. While on scene, officers also provided Spanish translation in a conversation between family members and paramedics, which helped to direct the type of medical care the child needed, police said,
