San Mateo Students to Receive Free Dental Screening

The free dental screening will take place Friday, Oct. 14 at Horrall Elementary School.

Students at in San Mateo are sure to smile on Friday when they receive a free dental screening as part of a local initiative to provide dental care to students from low-income families.

Assemblyman Jerry Hill, D-San Mateo, and San Mateo County Supervisor Carole Groom will attend the free screening at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14.

ACS, a Xerox Company, along with local dental professionals, will provide the dental screenings. ACS provides dental care to many low-income children and have provided many kids with their first dental checkup.

According to ACS, dental problems are one of the most frequently cited reasons for school absences. Children from low-income families are less likely to see a dentist regularly and, as a result, will suffer twice as many cavities as their peers.

ACS will also provide a free dental screening at Sunset Ridge Elementary School in Pacifica, on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
