3 Arrested In Gang-Related Assault In San Rafael: Police

Three men drove to Pickleweed Park on May 26, confronted a small group and called out their gang affiliation, Lt. Raffaello Pata said.

SAN RAFAEL, CA – Police have arrested three men in connection with an alleged gang attack that involved knives and a beer bottle last month in San Rafael.

The three men drove to Pickleweed Park on May 26, confronted a small group and called out their gang affiliation, San Rafael police Lt. Raffaello Pata said. Officers responded to the Canal neighborhood, got a description of the suspects' vehicle and stopped the car a short distance away.

Police identified the suspects but the victims had left the scene of the assault and were not available to identify the suspects, Pata said.

Detectives and officers from the city's street crimes unit found and interviewed the victims and witnesses on June 11. They told police three men had knives in their hands when they got out of the car. One person said that one of the suspects tried to stab him, while another told police that he ran away after one of the suspects threw a beer bottle at him.

All three suspects were positively identified, Pata said. Authorities searched San Rafael and the Bay Area for the suspects.

Authorities found and arrested Edward Carroll, 36, of San Rafael, on June 13 on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and participating in a street gang, Pata said. Erick Christofer Ajanel Ireta, 21, of Richmond, and Ricardo Luis Alvarez, 23, of San Rafael, were arrested on June 14 on suspicion of the same offenses. Alvarez was also booked for an alleged probation violation. All three men were booked into Marin County Jail.
