Alleged Rapist Arrested In San Rafael

Michael Lee Freeman, 43, of Novato, was arrested when he went to Kaiser Permanente San Rafael Medical Center with the alleged victim.

MARIN COUNTY, CA – A Novato man was arrested Saturday night at Kaiser Permanente San Rafael Medical Center on suspicion of rape and other charges, police said. Novato police said Michael Lee Freeman, 43, was arrested at about 8 p.m. at the hospital, where he and the alleged victim arrived earlier in the evening.

The victim was treated at the hospital. Hospital staff called the police once it was discovered that there was a stay away order in place against Freeman, Novato police Sgt. Alan Bates said.

Freeman was arrested on suspicion of rape, battery, inflicting injury on a spouse or co-inhabitant, false imprisonment, aiding and abetting suicide, violating probation and violating a court order to prevent domestic violence. The alleged offenses occurred at the victim's Novato residence, Bates said.

Freeman was booked into Marin County Jail and held in lieu of $100,000 bail. He remained in custody Tuesday, according to online jail records.
