San Rafael's U14 Blue Angels Girls Take 1st Place Championship in MISA Tournament

San Rafael’s U14 Girls Soccer Team, The Blue Angels, Are 1^st Place Champions

 In an exciting close to the 2011 Marin Interleague Soccer Alliance Tournament, a series of weekend games that concluded in the final playoff game on Sunday, November 6^th, San Rafael’s U14 Girls – The Blue Angels – prevailed over Ross Valley with a score of 1 - 0.  

There were 26 teams in the tournament and the Angels started as the 12th seeded team. Despite being the lowest ranked team to reach the semi-finals, they were victorious over the #1 seeded and undefeated Mill Valley team in an upset game on Saturday, Nov. 5th, thus reaching the finals vs. the Ross Valley Dynamite on Sunday, Nov. 6th. 

Head Coach Humberto Medina, who worked closely with fellow coach Jim Yampolsky,  attributed the victory to the girls’ tenacity and great teamwork:  “They worked their way up the ranks in season play, to become the Marin champions in their age group - an honor they earned with lots of hard work.  Two of their tournament games went into double overtime and Penalty Kicks, so the competition was fierce but they never let up. The Angels relied on each other's efforts, there was no superstar on the team, and this is a well deserved finish to a tough season played with great skill and lots of heart.  I couldn't be more proud of them."
