SAN RAFAEL, CA – An armed parolee was arrested Monday after he allegedly fled from police and attempted to get rid of a loaded gun, authorities said.
A police officer spotted and recognized Jorge Luis Martinez, 25, of San Rafael, while on patrol around 8:45 p.m. Monday in the area of Canal and Novato Streets, according to the San Rafael Police Department. When the officer approached Martinez, however, he allegedly turned away and attempted to avoid the officer.
"Officer (Elisha) Adams knew Martinez was on parole and subject to warrantless search and seizure," Sgt. Lisa Holton said. "Officer Adams got out of his patrol car and called for Martinez to stop. Martinez ignored the command, fleeing on foot instead."

Martinez ran into an apartment complex in the 100 block of Belvedere Street, Holton said. He reportedly drew a black revolver pistol from his waistband when he reached a fence at the back of the complex. While facing away from the officer, Holton said Martinez tossed the pistol over the fence into the backyard of an apartment.
"Martinez proceeded to run again and attempted to jump over a fence," Holton said. "Officer Adams again ordered him to stop, at which point Martinez complied. Martinez was taken into custody without further incident. The pistol was recovered and found to be loaded."
