Arson Investigation Launched After San Rafael Restaurant Fire

Fire officials said that a suspect had doused flammable liquids throughout a restaurant in San Rafael.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — Firefighters responded to a blaze inside a restaurant in San Rafael earlier this week, and officials are investigating the incident as arson, according to fire authorities.

Around 11 p.m. on Tuesday, fire crews responded to a fire alarm at an eatery on Bellam Boulevard. When firefighters arrived, they discovered that the building had been broken into as there were "obvious signs of forced entry," according to a release from the San Rafael Fire Department.

Video surveillance also showed a suspect committing the act of arson, according to fire officials and the San Rafael Police Department.

Firefighters said that flammable liquids had been poured throughout the establishment and set ablaze. Sprinklers were quickly activated, extinguishing the fire within minutes.
