Boy Arrested For Making Threats Against San Rafael High: Police

The threats were made for Wednesday and Nov. 25 on Instagram and YouTube, San Rafael police Sgt. Justin Graham said. ​

SAN RAFAEL, CA — Police arrested a boy Monday evening on suspicion of making threats against San Rafael High School over social media.

Concerned citizens and parents began reporting the online threats Monday afternoon. The threats were made for Wednesday and Nov. 25 on Instagram and YouTube, San Rafael police Sgt. Justin Graham said.

Detectives contacted the high school, the San Rafael City Schools district and the social media companies and were able to determine the owner of the accounts, Graham said.

"The threats were vague in nature," Graham said. "No other school was named in the threats."

The suspect was arrested and booked into Marin County Juvenile Hall. Police did not release the boy's name, age or grade or identify the school he attends.

"The San Rafael Police Department has devoted extra resources to the school, which includes high visibility patrols," Graham said. "SRPD's school resource officer is continuing to work with school staff to ensure that students remain safe."

Police thanked school staff, parents and students who reported the online threats.
