California Indian Storytelling, Crafts, and Cultural Wisdom
Saturday, Feb. 21, Learn about Traditional crafts and California Indian Culture as Native Instructors Demonstrate their Wisdom and Spirit
The California Indian Studies Program of College of Marin will be offering their “Traditional Storytelling, Tule Crafts, and Cultural Wisdom” on Saturday, February 21, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Come explore the Culture of Californian Indians with engaging native storytellers and artisans who will introduce you to their cultural arts with hands-on instruction. Sky Road Webb (Coast Miwok), and Alicia M. Retes (Mayo, Yaqui and Cherokee) will teach you about native language, songs, games, creation stories, abalone jewelry, and crafts made from the local tule reed, including a small tule boat.
The class will be held in Point Reyes at the Red Barn near the Bear Valley Visitor Center. It will begin with a tour of Kule Loklo, a reconstructed Miwok village and will include a gathering in the Round House to connect with the spirit of the land.
