Champion Named In Marin County Elementary Spelling Bee

MARIN COUNTY, CA — A student from Kent Middle School won the Marin County Elementary Spelling Bee Championship over the weekend.
Eleanor Bentley, a fifth grader, won the contest Saturday at Lucas Valley Elementary School in San Rafael. The winning word was "moratorium."
Fourth, fifth and sixth grade students from Marin public and private schools — all champions from previously held regional spelling bees — participated in the Marin County Elementary Spelling Bee Championship.

Tipkritta Thomson, a sixth grader from Sinaloa Middle School, won second place. Eleanor and Tipkritta will go on to compete in the Statewide Elementary Spelling Bee on May 9, 2020, at the San Joaquin County Office of Education.
Theo Trono, a sixth grader from Del Mar Middle School, placed third; Ylva Peters, a fifth grader from Tam Valley School, placed fourth; and Nikash Shah, a sixth grader from Davidson Middle School, placed fifth.
