'Clean Slate' Program Heads To Marin City, Offering Expungement And Health Services

The events aim to provide individuals with past justice system involvement a pathway to sealing or expunging their criminal records.

MARIN COUNTY, CA – The County of Marin's traveling initiative, which is designed to bring essential services directly to residents in their neighborhoods, is scheduled to arrive in Marin City on Feb. 26.

The Clean Slate Program pop-up event will take place from 4-6:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church, located at 101 Donahue St.

Originally conceived with Black History Month in mind, the core mission of the Clean Slate events is to provide individuals with past justice system involvement a pathway to sealing or expunging their criminal records, officials said.

Residents seeking to clear a record, terminate probation or dismiss a conviction can speak directly with representatives from the Public Defender’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office and the Probation Department. Attendees requesting law-related assistance are strongly encouraged to bring all relevant documentation, including past correspondences and State Department of Justice records.

Beyond justice-related services, the Department of Health and Human Services will be present to assist with public benefits such as Medi-Cal, CalFresh food assistance, CalWORKS services, employment training and general financial relief for families.

Additionally, the Department of Child Support Services will be available to help custodial and noncustodial parents with questions regarding existing cases, modifying orders or establishing parentage or child support.

The Clean Slate partnership extends beyond the Civic Center, often including support from nonprofit organizations such as Canal Alliance, Legal Aid of Marin, CenterPoint, Helen Vine Recovery Center, and the Marin City Community Development Workforce and Career Development. This collaborative approach aims to remove barriers to self-sufficiency and promote success for every resident.

Spanish translators will be available from each participating department to assist with health or immigration-related relief.
