Crews Halt Fire at Marin Rod and Gun Club

San Rafael, CA — Firefighters have brought a vegetation fire that burned more than three acres under control Saturday morning in San Rafael.

The fire was first reported at 10:57 a.m. at Marin Rod and Gun Club at 2675 Francisco Blvd., according to San Rafael Fire Department Battalion Chief Matt Windrem.

After arriving on scene, firefighters were eventually able to bring the fire under control, Windrem said.

No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged.

The blaze burned about three and a half acres, according to Windrem.

Investigators believe the fire was caused by a lawnmower, as a person was attempting to cut overgrown grass, Windrem said.

Fire officials said the best time to mow grass is in the mornings, when there is moisture in the air. Residents should also avoid leaving hot equipment, like a recently used lawn mower, unattended, according to Windrem.

Additionally, residents should always have a garden hose, or water, nearby just in case a small fire needs to be extinguished.
