An Evening with George Sumner in San Rafael

Happening Nov. 18 in downtown.

The Marin History Museum, as part of its Artist Spotlight series, will feature the works of renowned environmental artist, Marin resident George Sumner. The evening event will take place at the Elks Lodge/historic Maple Lawn Estate on Tuesday, November 18, from 6:30-8:00pm, and includes a reception plus chat session with Mr. Sumner. Reservations are required and may be placed by calling the Museum at (415) 454-8538. Admission is $10 per person, payable at the door. 1312 Mission Avenue, downtown San Rafael.

“An Evening with George Sumner” will include a display of Mr. Sumner’s most popular works, curated by the artist and his Beloved wife and Business Partner, Donnalei Sumner. The event showcases the Sumner’s support for the Museum, where as part of the Museum’s fundraising sale of 100 of the soon-to-be-released Marin Memories book, the couple has donated 100 prints of George’s portrait celebrating the Golden Gate Bridge’s 50th year anniversary.

“We mentioned to longtime Museum members Donnalei and George Sumner what we were up to in selling the ‘Marin Memories: The Early Years’ book as a fundraiser,” begins Marin History Museum Board member Joan Capurro. “The book is a history of Marin filled with photos selected from the Museum’s archive of over 200,000 photos, plus those contributed by Marin residents.”

Board President Jean Zerrudo continues on to explain that “we were hoping to come up with something special that would set our editions apart from the rest. And the Sumners stepped up and have so generously provided that special touch.” Those who purchase theMarin Memories book from the Museum for $100 will also receive a hand-signed print of George Sumner’s ‘Impossible Dream’ as an added bonus.

In addition to refreshments and original Sumner artwork, Mr. Sumner will speak on his story and what inspires his work, joined by Mrs. Sumner.All are welcome -- please reserve your ticket by calling the MarinHistory Museum at (415) 454-8538. $10 per person admission is payable at the door. Priority seating is available to those who pre-purchase the Marin Memories book from the Marin History Museum.
