Fallen Tree Knocks Out Power To Marin County Park Neighborhood

A major cleanup and repair effort is underway after a tree fell on power lines, causing an outage and blocking a street.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — A large fallen tree in San Rafael's Gerstle Park neighborhood has caused a power outage and blocked a residential street early Wednesday morning, police said.

Just after midnight, the tree came down onto power lines in the 200 block of C Street, damaging infrastructure and cutting electricity to parts of the surrounding area, according to the San Rafael Police Department. The fallen tree also rendered the roadway impassable.

Utility crews from PG&E were currently on the scene working to repair the damage. However, due to the significant extent of the damage to the power lines, police said that there is currently no estimated time for power restoration.

The outage has created traffic hazards, particularly at intersections where traffic signals are now non-operational. Police are urging drivers to exercise caution.

“Slow down and treat intersections without working signal lights as a four-way stop, as required by the law,” police said. "Be mindful of your surroundings and allow for extra time, as this will likely impact local traffic.”
