My mother, Abigail Hemstreet, a former White house employee for Nixon era be could homeless with dementia in a matter of weeks. Social security recently claimed that she had been overpaid and have ceased payments. The lack of income combined(she only receives retirement and social security) with her early onset dementia has resulted in her being served with a summons her for an unlawful detainer for eviction notice from her 55+ low income apartment. Instead of helping her find resources or placement, they resorted to kicking her out, which in 3 weeks will put her on the streets. She turned 66 in March, is a single white educated woman who has fallen through the cracks of our system and the situation has hit dire circumstances that she needs extra outside help. If she didn’t need extra medical attention i.e. medications on time, not setting the apartment ablaze, I would take in. Her memory is such that we carry out the same conversations 10-15 times multiple times a day. We need outside help most importantly in finding her a place that can monitor her but that fits her income and ASAP. I need help raising awareness to local media and other resources about her situation as I’m sure she’s not the only one to have fallen through the cracks.
