Maikel Jova Held Hitless as Pacifics Fall to Hawaii Stars

San Rafael Pacifics outfielder Maikel Jova, went 0 for 4 with a walk as the Pacifics fell to the Hawaii Stars, 5-4, at Wong Stadium on Thursday night.

Jova's consecutive games hit streak ended at 37 games, a North American League record, and the longest minor-league streak since 2009.

The right fielder hit the ball sharply in two at bats — a line out to left, and a line-drive out to the second basemen. Jova struck out in the ninth inning, representing the potential go-ahead run.

Stars starter Bryan Herrera (2-2, 4.86 ERA entering play Thursday) allowed 10 hits — two to San Rafael catcher Jon Hurst — walked three and struck out seven, and gave up four runs, but didn't factor in the decision.

Steve Detwiler went 3 for 4 with two runs and an RBI. His second-inning double sparked San Rafael's two-run rally.

The Pacifics (25-14) and the Stars (20-19) were tied at 4-4, heading to the seventh, but Matt Durkin and Matt Stabelfeld combined to pitch the final four innings, allowing two runs on four hits. Durkin (3-5) took the loss.

Jesse Garcia made his first start for San Rafael, lasting four innings, scattering five hits, three runs (all earned), walked one and struck out one.

San Rafael and Hawaii play Friday at 8:45 p.m.
