SAN RAFAEL, CA – A man was arrested this week after allegedly attempting to rob an elderly woman earlier this month in San Rafael.

A man grabbed and tried to take an 81-year-old woman's purse at about 2:30 p.m. Sept. 8 while she was walking into Country Club Bowl on Vivian Street, according to San Rafael police.

"The force from the attempt caused the victim to fall backward off the stairs," San Rafael police Sgt. Lisa Holton said. "The victim landed on her back on the ground, causing injury. The suspect was unable to wrench the purse from the victim's grasp and ran away without taking anything."
