The mural was created in memory of Taylor, who was killed by officers in March in Louisville, Kentucky. San Rafael police said there has been "high tension" in the location of the mural "because there are some individuals who are washing the mural away and other individuals who are remaking the mural in the same location."

The suspect was described as a heavy-set white male who was wearing a multi-colored cloth face mask, turquoise shirt, khaki pants/shorts, and carrying a broom and a black bucket.
