Marin County Extends Eviction Moratorium Through Sept. 30

Renters have up to 90 days after the expiration of the resolution to repay back rent.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — The Marin County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday extended a countywide eviction moratorium for residents economically suffering during the coronavirus pandemic.

It was the fourth time the board extended the moratorium, which was originally passed March 24. The extension will last through Sept. 30, according to the county. The resolution applies to incorporated cities and towns as well as unincorporated areas of Marin.

A landlord cannot evict a tenant as long as the tenant provides notice within 30 days after their rent was due that they are unable to pay because of financial impacts related to the pandemic, according to the county.

Renters have up to 90 days after the expiration of the resolution to repay back rent. The resolution encourages renters and landlords to agree on a repayment plan that allows renters to partially pay rent during the eviction moratorium. A landlord may not charge a late fee for rent that was owed during the eviction moratorium or the 90-day period that follows, according to the county.
