Marin County Seeks Assisted Care Advocates
Volunteers advocate for quality of life and quality of care for residents in nursing homes and assisted living residences.

MARIN COUNTY, CA – Looking to give back to the community? Volunteers are needed for Marin County's Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program.
The program is a service of Marin Health and Human Services' Aging and Adult Services. Volunteers advocate for quality of life and quality of care for residents in nursing homes and assisted living residences.
Volunteers are asked to commit to one year, donate a minimum of 10 hours each month, and attend staff and volunteer meetings every other month. After an orientation session, volunteers complete a 36-hour certification training.

The certification training program begins in January 2018. The training program provides information on the longterm care setting, the aging process, resident rights, complaint investigation and resolution, community resources, and other related topics on the elderly. It also helps participants understand the role of the ombudsman as resident advocate.
An informational presentation about the program will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 14 at the Marin County Department of Health and Human Services office, located at Point Reyes Room, 20 North San Pedro Road, San Rafael.
