Mobile Kitchen Vandalized At Marin's Salvation Army Corps

The canteen was deployed to the Sonoma County Fairgrounds in Santa Rosa during last year's North Bay fires.

SAN RAFAEL, CA – A mobile kitchen used to feed people affected by last year's North Bay fires was vandalized Tuesday night at the Salvation Army's Corps Community Center in San Rafael.

Kitchen equipment and food were stolen from the mobile kitchen, which was located in a gated parking lot at the center at 351 Mission Ave. The roof of the vehicle, known as a canteen, was also damaged, according to the organization.

"Whoever did this, they completely ransacked the whole canteen," said Lt. Larry Carmichael, lieutenant of the Salvation Army's San Rafael Corps. “These are items that we need for an emergency, especially this upcoming fire season.”

The canteen is a 20-year-old unit that's been used at various emergency disaster scenes, according to the Salvation Army. The mobile kitchen was deployed in October 2017 to the Sonoma County Fairgrounds in Santa Rosa to provide meals for nearly a week during the deadly North Bay fires.

Officials at the Salvation Army are seeking the public's help to replace the stolen food and kitchen equipment. To donate, contact the Salvation Army's San Rafael Corps at 415-459-4520 or sanrafael.salvationarmy.org.
